I am a veteran of over 20 years in the United States Naval Submarine Service, and have been boating for more than 48 years. I began my naval career as a Submarine Auxiliary Mechanic and worked my way up through the ranks. During my career I was also a qualified Naval Instructor and a submarine refit coordinator. While a member of the United States Power Squadron I taught a section of the Advanced Piloting Course. I also organized Nordhavn Atlantic Passage 2017 and 2019, NAP 2017 & 2019, in which 9 total boats participated in various sections of a transatlantic passage from Florida to Gibraltar or Ireland.
I can't tell you how many miles I have at sea since retiring from the Navy. I have never kept count but can tell you I have crossed the Atlantic 5 times, been to/lived in Europe 6 times, (spending over 3 & 1/2 years there aboard 6 different yachts), made numerous passages to/from and throughout the Caribbean, and transited the Panama Canal multiple times and completed "The Loop". I am familiar with both coasts of the US and Central America, the Intracoastal Waterway, the Erie Canal, the Great Lakes, and various US river systems. My wife and I lived and traveled aboard boats for 18 years before moving back ashore.
